In 2021 I founded Encrypted Reality, an art launchpad for the early Web3 art scene. Its goal was to bring traditional artists onchain, most of whom had never written a line of code or touched a wallet.
Artists could launch their own collections without code, and collectors could buy and trade them on a built-in marketplace.
Decisions
No-code, or no artists
The artists I wanted onchain were creators, not developers. If launching meant writing or deploying a smart contract, they wouldn't launch. So the platform did that part: real contracts, deployed onchain, that the artist never had to see.
What I built
- Factory contracts for different kinds of NFT collection, including ERC-721 for one-of-one and limited editions and ERC-1155 for multi-edition drops, so each artist got their own contract without writing or deploying one.
- A no-code launch flow that took an artist from uploaded work to a live onchain collection.
- A marketplace for buying and trading the collections, built on Reservoir and the Seaport protocol.
- The app itself: Next.js and TypeScript, hosted on Vercel.
- Curation: finding traditional artists and launching their first collections onchain.
